虽然我之前在国内的英文还算不错，可是到了美国，这个无处不在说这种语言的国度，加之这个国家也和中国一样，每个地方也有不同的accent口音，难免有时也很让我费神。

Jasmine：I felt it was a bit diffcult at the beginning.

John：How come?

Jasmine：Our English teacher speaks English fast with a heavy accent.

John：That's not a big problem. You'll get used to his way of speaking.

约翰：你能跟上英语课吗？

茉莉：一开始我感觉有一点困难。

约翰：怎么回事？

茉莉：我们的英语老师说话很快，而且带有很浓的地方口音。

约翰：那不是什么大问题。你会习惯他的说话方式的。

Companionship of Books以书为友

Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human effort.Temples and statues decay, but books survive.Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they frst passed through their author's minds, ages ago.What was then said and thought still speaks to us as vividly as ever from the printed page.The only effect of time has been to sift out the bad products；for nothing in literature can long survive but what is really good.

Books introduce us into the best society they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did；we see them as if they were really alive；we sympathize with them, enjoy with them, grieve with them；their experience becomes ours, and we feel as if we were in a measure actors with them in the scenes which they describe.

书籍具有不朽的本质，是人类勤奋努力的最为持久的产物。寺庙会倒塌，神像会朽烂，而书却经久长存。对于伟大的思想来说，时间是无关重要的。多少年代前初次闪现在作者脑海里的伟大思想今天依然清新如故。他们当时的言论和思想刊于书页，如今依然那么生动感人。时间唯一的作用是淘汰不好的作品，因为只有真正的佳作才能经世长存。
